Viral and Immune Disorders and Cancers

Axis leader : Doctor José Menezes

Axis leader assistant : Doctor Daniel Sinnett

Viral and immune diseases affect a large number of patients treated at CHU Sainte-Justine. Basic and clinical research into these pathologies has been a major preoccupation of the various investigators at the Research Center. To this end, transdisciplinary aspects that emerge from many of these investigators' projects have contributed toward and facilitated the establishment of this area of research. Given the interactions, collaborative work and progress achieved over the last few years, three themes have been prioritized within the framework of this strategic line of research. They are aimed at both fundamental and clinical aspects as well as the transfer of research knowledge surrounding the diagnosis, prognosis and/or treatment of the pathologies being studied.
The experimental approaches adopted to respond to the issues raised include the very latest methodologies at the (in vitro and in vivo) cellular and molecular levels. The investigators in this line of research work in the following disciplines: immunology, virology, biochemistry, molecular biology, pharmacology, epidemiology, biostatistics as well as various clinical fields, mainly infectious (including AIDS), autoimmune, gastroenteric and pulmonary diseases as well as allergies and cancer.
