Research Development
Facilitative structure for the transfer of technology
CHU Sainte-Justine and its Research Center joined forces with Univalor, a technology transfer company, when it was set up in April 2001.Univalor falls under the umbrella of the University of Montreal and it was created with the main purpose of marketing the results of research carried out at the University itself, its affiliates and hospital research centers.
The CHU Sainte-Justine Research Center has developed a structure within the institution for the commercialization of the research activities of its members. To this end, the Research Center Directorate appointed has a Technology Transfer Manager who is responsible for the transfer of the technology that it delegates to Univalor in conjunction with its commercialization activities.
The Technology Transfer Manager's activities include the promotion of the transfer of knowledge through information sessions, personal contact with the researchers, guidance during the disclosure process for inventions, patent filing and securing private venture capital partners in the industrial sector or others that are likely to be interested in the findings.
Results obtained over the last three years
The activities of the investigators working at CHU Sainte-Justine Research Center are directed toward research in the biomedical and psychosocial sciences.
The projects are of a multidisciplinary nature and are carried out for the most part in collaboration not only with investigators working at other institutions that are part of or affiliated with the University of Montreal, but also with researchers from other universities.
For example, basic and clinical science investigators in the field of orthopedics are working in close collaboration with investigators from the École Polytechnique, which is affiliated with the University of Montreal and the École de Technologie Supérieure, an affiliate of the Université du Québec . Investigators in endocrinology are collaborating with researchers from the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Montreal.
The results of commercialization efforts that have been obtained over the last three years are shown below. It is important to realize that these results are the outcome of many years of work, given the complexity of the subjects treated and the steps involved in reaching a commercialization phase.
