Welcome to the CHU Sainte-Justine Research Center

The CHU Sainte-Justine Research Center is doing everything in its power to promote the development of knowledge in the field of maternal, pediatric and adolescent health, thereby ensuring a better future for our children.

We are capitalizing on integrative research, ranging from a focus on molecules right through to population studies, to defeat serious pediatric disorders such as delayed intrauterine growth, obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, scoliosis, epilepsy, language disorders, behavioral problems as well as suicide issues, to name but a few of the most frequent conditions.

In collaboration with all of the Center's teams, we have defined the following six lines of research:

  • Health Outcomes
  • Brain Diseases
  • Musculoskeletal Diseases and Movement Sciences
  • Viral and Immune Disorders and Cancers
  • Fetomaternal and Neonatal Pathologies
  • Metabolic Health

These areas of research have been established in order to ensure the critical mass of researchers in our areas of excellence and in the innovative and cutting-edge sectors we wish to develop further. We must also ensure that clinical research plays a leading role in the life of our institution. In this way all the progress we are making through research will help us to improve our diagnoses and treatments as well as advance our work on disease prevention and health promotion.

In carrying out their work, our teams of researchers turn to a wide spectrum of "non biological" sciences such as human and social sciences, physics, chemistry, engineering and computer science.

As with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, our areas of research integrate multidisciplinarity, interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity, a wide range of kinds of research, including basic research, clinical research and research that focuses on health care, health programs and science-based approaches and studies the influence of society, culture and environment on the physical and mental health of various populations.

The Center's development plan has received many awards of excellence from the FRSQ. They bear witness to the recognition and appreciation of our efforts to intensify complementarity among the various research lines, increase our critical mass and strengthen the links we have established with the hospital's health care programs.

The CHU Sainte-Justine Research Center endeavors to offer a privileged place of learning to its student researchers and postdoctoral fellows who represent the future lifeblood of scientific research. We promote a mentoring approach, whereby our senior researchers inspire and guide our teams while giving new impetus to their research activities. In this way we are forging the next wave of scientific pioneers who will enable our Center to distinguish itself, strengthen its high standing and continue to earn its acclaim both within Canada and abroad.

It is with all these major strengths that we will be able to provide our young patients with a good start in life so they can look forward to becoming healthy adults.
